vivo, the leading global smartphone brand, in collaboration with (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) TISS, and Vidyasaarathi, today announced the second phase of its ‘vivo for Education Scholarship program’ to support the higher education with scholarships of more than INR 60 lakhs for underprivileged sections of Gujarat. vivo introduced Phase I of the scholarship program in Telangana and Maharashtra in 2021 as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives. vivo awarded worth INR 8 lakh of scholarships to over 65 students as part of Phase I of the program

As part of Phase II and in line with vivo’s vision of ‘Live the Joy’, INR 50,000 or the annual fees (whichever is less) will be provided to first-year students of undergraduate and post-graduate programs as financial support for families with a yearly income of less than 5 lakhs. The scholarship will be awarded to students who have secured at least 80% in their previous academic session.

“With this scholarship program, we endeavour to empower students in their pursuit of building a successful career by bridging the e-learning gap. The program will empower deserving students to look beyond the social and fiscal divide providing them with an adequate mind space for following their dreams. Through this initiative, we want to provide the wind beneath their wings as they fly high.” said Yogendra Sriramula, Director- Brand Strategy, vivo India.

“vivo has always focused its initiative on creating a meaningful connection and long-term impact. With this initiative, young minds will be able to focus on their learning journey without worrying about their financial situation. With this initiative, we hope to benefit many young aspiring minds to turn their dreams into reality,” said Vishwanjay Zaveri, Head, vivo India in Gujrat.

Under the scholarship program, vivo is contributing more than 1.5 crores for students studying in five states, i.e. Jharkhand, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Punjab. As part of the brand’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) mandate, the scholarships will be distributed in partnership with TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) and Vidyasaarathi, a technology-enabled initiative by Protean eGov Technologies Limited.

In its bid to make education financing more seamless and accessible for students across India, Protean eGov Technologies Limited has set up ‘Vidyasaarathi’ a technology-driven platform which has enabled underprivileged students to receive financial assistance via corporate-funded scholarships. Students can search and apply to various education finance schemes they are qualified for.

‘vivo for Education Scholarship program’ was announced in August last year with an aim to support students from low-income families to continue their education by providing financial assistance to deserving students. Earlier this year, vivo provided vivo smartphones to 100 underprivileged students for their online education alongside cash scholarships worth INR 1.5 lakhs to help them continue their education.
